The first in an (endless) series of books full of adventure, courage and noble questing.

These books perhaps have the best claim of any contemporary book of uniting all boys. I have not met a young boy yet who did not become engrossed in these books. The premise in simple. A young boy and girl begin a very important quest. They need to find various beasts and free them from a magical binding. The beasts used to be good and act to protect the realm. However, an evil wizard has gained power over the beasts and has enslaved them to become evil and dangerous. The two heroes set the beasts free.

There are hundreds of books in the series and they mostly share the basic premise. Each book deals with a different beast and adds a little bit more to the back story of the characters. The story however is basically the same. These two courageous young people venture into mortal danger because they need to do the right thing. They do it successfully. The repetition however does not seem to bother the target audience. Boys love reading these books of adventure and danger. Together with their heroes they become bigger than life and fight against evil.

I have not read all of these book (that would be unbearable for an adult to endure). I have however read the first series entitled ‘Where it all began’. I see nothing wrong with these books: they offer honest fun and excitement. Young boys, as well as many girls are guaranteed to enjoy these books. They are easy to read and a 9 year old can easily read them on their own.
