This book has an ambitious title and the story feels just as grand. It is about a young mute Moroccan slaveboy who travels to Europe accompanying a remarkable race horse.
The story is full of exotic charm, kindness, loving dedication, hardship and adventure. It is a joy to read. What is most remarkable about this book are its characters. They are unlike the characters that we tend to meet in European literature. This book is a great opportunity to meet these unique people and to see their (different) way of life.
This book has won a Newberry Medal for good reason.
