A story picture book about a young girl on a farm who takes responsibility to care for her own chickens. She faces a 'natural tragedy' when a fox eats some of her chickens, but with her parents support she accepts this as part of the cycle of life and the book ends with new joy and hope.

This is a book for people who enjoy the beauty of rural life. The illustrations are the best thing about the book. They are artfully drawn and depict charming images of family life on a farm. It is also nice to read a story about a child who contributes to the family home with her work and care.

This book is a 'wholesome experience' for young readers who spend some time amongst flowers and farm animals.
