This picture-storybook is a rendition of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. It follows alongside the original story but it is told from the perspective of a community of mice who live in the cellars and crannies of Dickens’ London.
To be honest I found the storytelling of this book left much to be desired. It is a little confused. The text itself does not carry the story but the reader can make sense of it if they know the original classic tale. Nevertheless, I have added this books a recommendation in this list because its illustrations are very successful. They carry us immediately into Dickens’ wintery London. Even if the book had no text we would know that this is Dickens’ Christmas Carol retold.
There is nothing offensive about the text and I am sure that many families will enjoy this book. A good introduction to the themes of Christmas charity and love as expressed by Dickens.
