Another worthwhile children's story by George Macdonald. This story shows a husband and wife who travel together through life, urged in by their yearning for another more beautiful world, until at last, at the end of their life, they find the entrance to the 'better place'. You could say that this book is a parable for a Christian wedded life.
The story telling is a little abstract, but it is worth reading nontheless. The reader feels that they are in the hands of someone who knows what he is pointing you towards.
George Macdonald is an exceptional writer who has had a major influence on authors including C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton. The reason he has been an inspiration for authors of this calibre is, I believe, because he combined an authentically Christian ethos with a unique and profound perceptivity of imagination and 'fairytale reality'.
