If you do not know this book, buy it now and read it. After you have done that, watch the film. It is truly funny and wonderful.

This book works on many levels. It has layers of narrative, meta narrative and meta-meta narrative. For this reason it works as a story book for children as young as six, but it is certainly enjoyed by adults. I would read this aloud to younger children focusing on the story - skipping over some of the sections that are more dry ‘scholarly humour’.

This book - as the author decided himself - is a classic. A book for the whole family.
