This picture book is an 'ode of love to a little Asian girl'. It is a poem a mother may have written for her little girl, with an emphasis on the particular beauty of being Asian. It is basically a romantic celebration of an Asian family, looking with love to the daughter, the mother, and the grandmother.

The text makes sense if you read it alongside the sweet illustrations.

No one would write this book to celebrate their family's Caucasianess, because that would be considered racist. This book wants to affirm that although different, Asian looks are beautiful. The theme of the book may strike some adults readers as labouring the obvious, or as part of the modern obsession to categorise people. However, if you don't over think it, the book is nice. The pictures are artful and the its message is true. The girl and her family are beautiful indeed.

The book has a lot to recommend it. It shows the happiness and love that can be had within a family home. It shows the love across the generations and the joy and pride that we all take in resembling our loved ones. It shows the value of tradition and culture. A profitable book over all.
