This beautiful children’s chapter book, written in the early 1970’s, is about a native American boy growing up as the youngest son of a Red Indian Chief. This is a lovely story. It takes you back and away to an enchanting time and place, and deep into the feelings of a little boy who desires to become a respected member of his community.

The story is for children, but it is noble, serious and honest. It is full of humanity, as well as adventure. The story line is satisfying and meaningful. The illustrations are plentiful and beautiful. This book will leave children thoughtful and intrigued.

I read this book to my four and six year old, and a nine year old could read it themselves. The book is accompanied by a second little book, Run For Home. Both are entirely worthwhile.
