As the title suggests, this book is a small colourful information book about (an interesting) variety of sea creatures.

The presentation of information is systematic and straightforward, in the good sense. The layout is orderly and easy to read. The illustrations are modern (and yet) artful and pleasant. The choice of sea creatures presented is good. The best things about the book however, what makes it special, is the information that is gives about each animal. Although the text for each creature is short, it is knowledgeable. We often find that such information books contain odd pieces of information that are trying to be spectacular or fun, but don't add up to much. Reading this book however, both adults and children will feel that they are learning and understanding marine life better. At the same time, the data learnt is remarkable. Children will certainly be able to amaze others with their fun facts after reading this book.

This is a great gift for children who like learning facts about the natural world, or who have a love for nature and sea life. It would also make a good reference book for a school library. The text is written so that a primary school child can read it easily. This would make a good book for practicing early reading skills.

The title may be a little misleading. This is not a 'first book' in the sense that it is meant for toddlers. The information presented here is suitable for primary age children.
