The first book in the British Paddington series. Although I consider some of the Paddington books to be too dull to be worthy of children’s time, I find this first one worthy of its reputation. The sweet story of how Paddington was found and adopted by a polite and kind English middle class family shows off what is best about British politeness. The family welcome him into their home. Through the story we meet this loveable bear, but in the background we also meet this very English family.
A classic piece of British children’s literary culture.
