This children’s picture story book is great for children who are intrigued by unicorns. It was published in 2006 before before images of unicorns became so widespread, cheesy and coarse. The book has a gentleness reminiscent of what unicorns have represented for generations: the wonderfulness and magic of purity; and the gifts that purity bring to us.
The story is about a girl who befriends a unicorn. By the end of the story the unicorn leaves but she finds that all her wishes have been fulfilled. The illustrations are also lovely.
I expect this book will be enjoyed more by girls. I would say that younger boys would enjoy it as much as girls but on the older end of the age range, girls will like it more than their boy peers. My main reason of this is because the storyline - even though it is full of activity- is subtle. There is no adventure, not much happens. One’s first impression of the book is one of lovely images and satisfying moments. Girls tend to respond better to such stories than boys. When you think back on the book however, you find a lot of things to ponder on.
A book to cherish. Likely to become a little girls favourite book.
