An exciting action packed tale about an adventurous character living in 12th century Europe and the Middle East. It is a fun historical adventure, with alluring characters and interesting conversations. I do not agree with much of the philosophising in the book, but it is well told, and well exemplified by the characters and their choices.

A bit too promiscuous for younger readers, this book has little to teach about morality, but it is fascinating to read. It brings history to life. L’Amour had intended this book to be the first of a series of books taking place in the Byzantium, but unfortunately he never completed any more.
