Ray Mears' 'Essential Bushcraft' does what is says on the cover. It introduces a variety of practical bushcraft skills including lighting a fire, building shelter and finding food and water. The skills taught are from a selection of natural environments from around the world.

The book is well-presented with photographs and useful illustrations. Those who like camping and bushcraft will really enjoy reading through this book. It offers a little theory as well as the practical know-how for each skill; it has a nice selection of skills taught that are actually useful.

Additionally, I feel the book will be interesting and fun to flip through for those of us who will never use any of these skills. There is something invigorating about knowing that 'you could know how to do these things'. It is also interesting to red about the various survival skills that people use around the world. In some sense this book has an ethnographic interest.

A book that will be useful to some and interesting for many.
