The Fox Who Stole the Moon is an imaginary story about (as the title tells) a magical fox who brought the moon as a gift to a boy who was desiring to visit it. The boy is overwhelmed by the magnitude of the act and together with the fox returns the moon to its place in the sky. The adventure is completed when everything returns to normality and the boy has his actual usual life back.

The storyline gives us something to think about: it shows that people do not actually want many of the things that the emotionally desire or even wish for. The boy prefers his everyday reality and is disconcerted when his imaginary thoughts became real. The book subtly shows that we can explore and desire various things with our imagination, but that we do not indeed want these imaginings to be realised.

The storyline is alright, however, this book would never have qualified for this list of wonderful books on the merit of its storyline alone. What makes this book worthwhile - exceptional even - are its wonderful illustrations. Grace Kelly has achieved what every illustrator of children's books should aim at. She has created a series of high-quality storytelling art pieces that are worthy of children's attention. A beautiful book.
