If there is a work of literature that does not need an introduction it is this Tolkien’s trilogy. It is published as 3 books and these need to be read in order. Their order is: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

These books are so good that they can change a young person’s life. Indeed they have had a big impact on modern civilisation through their readers. These books are the perfect example of the ideal fairytale/fantasy story. That is - even though they are entirely fictional, the reader feels that what is being read is more true that reality itself. In a sense they are: that is the art of good fairytale/fantasy writing.

The characters become the stuff of your fantasies in a good way; the world-building is remarkable; the plot is captivating; the dialogues are genius; the moral backbone holding the entire story up is truthful and good. These books are wholesome and exceptionally, spectacularly well written.

Please notice that the first book in the trilogy starts with a prologue section. I strongly suggest skipping this at first and returning to read it after you have read the books and fallen in love with the characters. If you try to read it before you have been carried aloft on the wings of the plot you might find the book boring and put it down. These books are certainly suitable for adults as well as children.
